Dickey's Barbecue Pit Birthday Surprise

This year for my birthday Pete and I were in West Virginia. Since we both love to travel and my birthday lands just a few days before a major holiday here in the USA we opted to take a trek down south.

The night before we had stopped in a location that had nothing but a Dairy Queen open so we were hungry and ready for some good old southern BBQ. After checking into our hotel and getting some recommendations from the receptionist we made our way over to Dickey’s Barbecue Pit. We didn’t really know what to expect and where pleasantly surprised that it wasn’t a fast food place, but also not your average sit down restaurant.

Brisket Platter

Dickey’s Barbecue Pit did not disappoint in their food options. I love brisket thanks to my Texas family so whenever I get a chance to order it I try too. Along with the brisket I ordered a side of mac-n- cheese and coleslaw. There were a few different options for BBQ sauce, but to be fair you really have to try them all to find the one(s) you like the most. Peter liked to combine two of them while I liked the one he didn’t like at all. It just goes to show that taste is always different.

Pulled Pork Platter

Peter ordered the pulled pork along with mac-n-cheese, mash potatoes, and beans. What Peter and the staff of Dickey’s Barbecue Pit did made for a great amazing birthday. Since Dickey’s Barbecue Pit isn’t like a sit-down chain restaurant Peter realized that there will be no group chorus to sing me happy birthday day as I die from embarrassment. I felt relieved to this idea and happily picked a booth to enjoy my dinner.

Peter spent some time talking to the guy behind the counter and quickly before even eating ran out to the car. I was confused but had a slight idea on what he was up too. Handing off a package to the cashier, Peter delightfully sat down to eat his dinner. What he didn’t know was that I was able to see the kitchen from my spot. As we ate I watched the kitchen and my hunch drastically drew further and further to a conclusion when I saw candles being lite.

Yep that’s right Peter still somehow managed to find a way to make my birthday just a little more memorable as the crew brought out a cake, Peter had purchased, decorated with candles and Happy Birthday on it, all while Peter sang to me. In all honesty, it wasn’t the fact that it was my birthday that mattered it was that Peter knew I was having a rough patch of things and my birthday shouldn’t be ruined by it that made it that much more special.

I wish there was a Dickey’s Barbecue Pit near where we live because not only was the food amazing but the hospitality was too.
