Seat Sizes

The majority of seat belts on American Airline planes is approximately 45 inches. This can vary due to safety regulations, seat requirements and fleet specifications.

If you are in need of a seat belt extender, the flight attendant will discreetly provide you with one upon completing boarding if you ask.

Policy for Overweight Passengers
The policy for overweight passengers flying on American Airlines has been removed from their special assistance information on their website as of August 2020. However, the prior public policy stated the following for overweight passengers – “if a customer’s body extends more than 1 inch beyond the outermost edge of the armrest and a seat belt extension is needed, another seat is required” – American Airlines Special Assistance Information
