JetBlue Airlines Policy for Portly Passengers

We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.

We have updated the Jetblue Airlines Policy for Portly Passengers information to provide more comprehensive information about their Customer of Size policy. To learn more check out our updated blog post, here.

Seat Sizes
JetBlue Airline economy seats are between 17.8 and 18.25 inches.
Seat Belts
Seat belts are measured approximately 45 inches long and extenders give approximately 25 additional inches.
It’s best to ask a flight attendant for an extender upon boarding and they will discreetly hand one to you once seated.
Policy for Overweight Passengers
JetBlue does not have a policy for portly passengers. They let customers decide on their personal comfort as to whether a second seat would be of benefit.

Since there was no information available on their website we contacted the airline via online chat to confirm the information that has been passed around the internet.

I traveled last Friday night on flight 801 from Orlando to SLC next to a VERY “portly” gentleman. I was miserable. I could not reach the TV/screen controls, ear phone, had to endure his large leg up against mine …sweaty…for the 5 hour flight AND have since had to visit a chiropractor to straighten out my neck and back after having to lean out towards the aisle. I did not complain while on the flight not wanting to embarrass him, but…I should have because it surely was not fair. PLEASE rethink your policy toward oversized passengers. I will avoid Jet Blue for my future travel.

      Hi Tina,

I’m sure that this gentleman felt just as uncomfortable as you did. In these cases, it’s best to discretely ask the flight attendant if there are any open seats.
