Can I use a seatbelt extender?

Seatbelt lengths can differ from seat to seat and plane to plane.

  • The average seatbelt length for Southwest Airlines is about 39inches long
  • Seatbelt extenders that are about 24inches long

Don’t be afraid to ask for a seatbelt extender, if it is your first time here are some tips we have from our own experiences

Southwest policy for oversized passengers states they do not allow passengers to use their own seatbelt extender, however many plus-size travelers have been able to use their own for years. If you would like to bring your own seatbelt extender while flying Southwest you will need a Type B extender. This means a seatbelt extender that is utilized by many other airlines will not work for Southwest.
