I rarely “love” food

We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.

Nine years ago I studied abroad over my final semester in college. That experience is what started the travel bug for me, but the one thing I took away the most what how unenthusiastic I come across when it involves food.

As my time went on some of my classmates started to complain about how I wasn’t obsessive over gelato (truth hurts but it’s not my favorite) or that not every dish I tried was “excellent”. It was my first experience outside of the United States and I was more than willing to try new foods. But I’m not one to give an opinion on something I find mediocre just because it is different.

The few times I did express complete satisfaction of a dish during that trip it turned the heads of those around me. The reason, because I was being honest and authentic to the true pleasure of food.

Not everything is going to excite our tastebuds and some foods are just there to feed our bodies, but when they accomplish feeding the body and soul that is when the moment of truth must be divinely excised for the world to know.

You might be curious as I write about food here on our blog, but these are the locations that have done exactly that in which I or Peter want to share. We appreciate the food available to us throughout our journeys, but some foods, they last a lifetime and those are the ones we hope to share with you.

So if anyone complains that you don’t love food, just know you aren’t alone. Food is an experience, it doesn’t have to be “loved” every time you eat it.

If you are curious here is the list of foods I “loved” during my time living in Italy. Maybe someday I’ll go back and get a chance to write about it all, but for now the list will be evidence enough.

  • Pizza by the Colosseum
  • Spaghetti in Sorrento
  • Ravioli in Sorrento
  • Ice cream in Florence (not gelato!)
  • Bruchetta in Rome
  • Vanilla gelato near Pantheon (yes I actually found gelato I loved)
