What rides and attractions can a plus-size individual do when visiting Magic Kingdom?

With 34 attractions (including traditional theme park rides, shows, experiences, and walkthroughs) at Disney’s Magic Kingdom, it would be nice to know which attractions to avoid and which ones to head straight for.

Here is a list of the different attractions and which seats you may want to know about before your visit.

Theme Park Rides

Here is a list of what you can expect for each ride with a moving vehicle at the Magic Kingdom as a plus-size guest.

Big Thunder Mountain – A bench set with an adjustable lap bar. The seat is designed to fit two individuals. I have found that two plus-size or mid-size individuals can fit in the seat together but it is a snug fit.

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin – A bench seat with a pull-down lap bar. Each car is designed to have two riders as there are only two laser guns for the ride. I have found that two plus-size or mid-size individuals can comfortably sit on this ride.

Carousel of Progress – This is theater seating that can be difficult for plus-size individuals to sit in. They do have handicap seating available where the side armrest raises, however, there is still a high metal side that you will need to worry about for your hips.

I personally do not have any problem sitting on this ride, but Peter finds it can be difficult.

Dumbo the Flying Elephant – Similar design to Aladdin’s Magic Carpet ride, a bench seat with an extendable seat belt, is designed to fit 2 individuals. However many plus-size individuals state they are more comfortable sitting by themselves or with a small child instead of two adults.

Here are some content recommendations that you might be interested in:

The Haunted Mansion – Bench seating with an automatic lap bar that adjusts to the riders in the car. This can usually fit 2-3 adults, we have experienced 2 plus-size individuals fit comfortably in the car.

It’s a Small World – This is a boat ride with bench seating. Each row has its own seat backing. They do offer boats for wheelchair users as well.

The only problem we found with this ride is the legroom can feel a little cramped.

Jungle Cruise – This is also a boat ride that is bench seating. The benches are designed to look like cargo and depending on where you sit on the boat you might be back to back with another passenger.

Because this ride does not have a designated seat they load the boats based on the number of riders in the line and the space available in the boat.

Mad Tea Party – Can we really call this bench seating? In reality, the Mad Tea Party is a circular design of bench seating where each car is determined based on the rider’s preference. If you want to ride by yourself, go for it.

The only problem with this ride is that you have to get in at an angle because of the steering wheel in the center of the car.

Magic Carpets of Aladdin – A bench seat with an extendable seat belt. The seat is designed to fit 2 individuals, but many plus-size individuals state they are more comfortable sitting by themselves or with a small child instead of two adults.

PeopleMover – This ride is beloved by many because it usually has a small line, is a great place for a nap and you get to see the majority of the park. The seats on this ride are also bench seating making it easy for riders to sit on either side of the car.

Peter Pan’s Flight – Another bench seat with a pull-down lap bar. This can comfortably sit two plus-size adults.

Pirates of the Caribbean – Bench seating that is meant to hold up to 4 adults, but many times if you catch the ride at the right time, you will be able to ride with just your party members.

Prince Charming Regal Carousel – The carousel horses can be difficult to reach if you have mobility issues. The horses in the center of the ride are lower to the ground, but if you are still worried about this ride, they do offer benches as well.

Seven Dwarfs Mine Train – This is one of the older rides with bucket-style seating. Because of this many plus-size individuals complain about hip restrictions.

Space Mountain – Bucket seats make Space Mountain a little less friendly for plus-size riders, especially those with wider hips and thighs. The lap bar can also be very tight (you are flying around a track at 60+ mph).

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure (previously Splash Mountain) – This ride is bench seating designed for 2 riders. The lap bar comes down to a comfortable location as well.

Tomorrowland Speedway – The cars are bench seating and a seat belt that goes across both riders. The cars are small with minimal legroom for passengers.

Under the Sea – Journey of the Little Mermaid – Similar to The Haunted Mansion this ride uses bench seating and automatic lap bars.

Shows and Experiences

Country Bear Jamboree – Country Bear Jamboree is an animatronic stage show that provides bench seating in an auditorium. Beyond the hard seat and backing, plus-size individuals shouldn’t have a problem with seating at this show.

Enchanted Tiki Room – Bench seating provides everyone with the ability to get the famous Tiki Tiki Tiki song stuck in your head!

Hall of Presidents – The Hall of Presidents is a great place to take a nap (just saying!) but the seating is theater seating without the ability to raise the arms in the middle. This can make it difficult for plus-size individuals.

Mickey’s PhilharMagic – Auditorium seating is what makes the experience at Mickey’s PhilharMagic. From motion, smells, and sounds, each seat is designed to enhance your experience. Unfortunately, this makes it a little more difficult for wider hips and thighs to be comfortable.

There is handicap seating available for wheelchairs, but these do not give you the full experience either.

Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor – Bench seating allows you to enjoy the many laughs that happen in Monsters Inc Laugh Floor.

Conclusion

Magic Kingdom offers plus-size guests a lot of opportunities to enjoy the theme park whether you want to experience a ride or see a show.

My favorite rides are definitely some of the expected such as Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean, but sometimes squeezing into one of the bucket seats to experience the joy of a log flume or original theme park ride can be worth it.
