As many people who travel with their dogs know, it can sometimes be very difficult to find restaurants that accept dogs, even on their outdoor patios. It’s one of the biggest struggles we find when bringing Maggie along with us anywhere, even in a dog-friendly town. This trip made it even more difficult because it was raining, making any outdoor patio impossible to actually eat at.
Luckily for us after a few phone calls and a recommendation from another location in town we were directed towards the Mason Dixon Distillery. They provided a covered patio with a separate entrance that we could bring Maggie through. Under the patio, there are picnic benches and large heaters that helped make the cold air a little more bearable.
Since we were visiting Gettysburg during the off season, the Distillery was not very crowded and we enjoyed the majority of the evening alone under the tent in their patio.
Our waitress, Callie, brought Maggie her own bowl of water while we ordered drinks. I had a wonderful “Your Pear” while Peter had an Old Fashion. We delighted in conversation while Maggie hung out with us and just truly enjoyed being with each other.
Once dinner arrived we were pleasantly surprised. Ordering off of the special menu, we found ourselves delighted with the combination of chicken, bacon, steak, etc. Unfortunately, after we got home and were packing to move I lost all of my notes from our trip, which included what we ordered that night.
However, even if I did tell you what we ordered, it wouldn’t really matter. Speaking with the head chief he informed us that they like to switch up their menu each week based on what ingredients are available. This makes the options continually changing, giving visitors more of an investment in food art, then just a bite to eat.
While they do have a main menu with sandwiches and burgers available, the options on the specials menu can be a true surprise from the everyday meals you can find at most restaurants. The best part, the specials pricing was comparable to everyday menu items, making it worth the investment of something different than your traditional go-to meal.
Overall, we can’t wait to go back to the distillery on our next visit to Gettysburg. The staff was friendly, the location is dog inclusive and the food is excellent. It’s a trifecta of what we look for when traveling with Maggie.
