Accessibility at Disney

We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.

Disney has been an integral part of my life, from the first time my parents took me at 5 to when I worked there for their college program.

I have experienced Disney as both an able person and disabled person, skinny person and plus-size person. Each experience was unique and most importantly FUN!

Wheelchairs at Disney Theme Parks

Disney does a great job by offering both regular wheelchairs and motorized wheelchairs for rent at the front of each park. The cost of a regular wheelchair rental is $12 per day while a motorized wheelchair (Electric Conveyance Vehicle) is $50 per day.

There are daily deposits that are required for both styles of wheelchairs and the cost is dependent on the location of initial rentals.

The best part of renting a wheelchair from a Disney park is that they are transferable. So if you rent one in Animal Kingdom for the morning, you can head over to Magic Kingdom and not pay for a second rental at the park.

Note: The maximum weight for the ECVs at Disney is 450 pounds.

Wheelchairs at Disney Resorts

Back in 2012, I tore my ACL right before my trip to Disney World. Unable to put weight on my leg and unable to cancel the trip (mostly I refused to cancel), we knew that I would need some form of mobility help.

Because wheelchair rentals are not available at Disney Resorts we searched for a local rental company to help provide an ECV for our trip.

Disney has relationships with many vendors in the local area that provide services of both drop-off and pick-up at your hotel, even before you arrive!

This made it so much easier after a long flight and hobbling around on crutches.

If you are in need of a wheelchair or ECV outside of the Disney parks, call Disney’s customer service for an updated list of local providers to ensure you have mobility in both your resort and the parks.

Additional Accessibility Options

Disney does a great job of trying to provide disability services for all. Whether it is cognitive, mobility, hearing, light sensitivity, etc. Disney has provided a list of the services they provide based on the needs of their guest that you can view here.
